The sky is a little bit brighter tonight as Tucson lost one of its shining stars yesterday. On Sunday February 17, 2019, Alisha May Escoto (McGhee) lost her long and hard-fought battle against depression. A memorial service will be held for her Feb. 21 at […]

As if I didn’t already love the Pima County Library, here’s one librarian (Vicki Ann Duraine) who started a campaign to help the homeless pets during the holidays at Pima Animal Care Center. Last year her campaign collected 1,600 pounds of contributions. Let’s raise that bar this year; collections end December 23.
Did you know that PACC takes in 50–100 pets every single day? That adds up to about 17,000 homeless pets a year! Unlike the Humane Society of Southern Arizona which charges a relinquish fee, PACC is open admission and does not turn away any animal. My hat is off to every dedicated volunteer and employee who gives there all at PACC.
Unfortunately, not all pets are lucky enough to spend the holidays shredding gift wrap at home or peeing on the Christmas tree (wink). Let’s help the ones at the county shelter. Contributions can be dropped off at all libraries throughout Pima County as well as picking up a wish list.
Most-needed items include:
- Nylabones and Kong toys
- Collars, leashes and harnesses in all sizes
- American-sourced treats, food, toys and bones
- Gently-used or new pet beds
- Towels and small blankets
- Kuranda beds click here to donate
PACC does NOT accept:
- Large quilts or comforters (they are too hard to wash!)
- Pillows, furniture cushions
- Fitted sheets
- Very used/soiled bedding
Ho ho ho, what do you know? “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” -Anatole France
